What Do You Do When Your Ebay Customer Doesn’t Pay

Unfortunately as a seller you will occasionally have customers that do not pay.

There are some people out there who will bid on your item, or buy the item through the buy it now option, with no intentions of paying. I don’t know why but obviously some people get enjoyment out of annoying other people.

There will be the occasional buyer though for whatever reason is unable to pay immediately. For this reason, to be fair to your customers, never jump to the conclusion that they are purposely not paying for the item. Give them the benefit of the doubt and try to contact them before taking further action.

If you have tried to contact the buyer and there is no communication in return from them then you can file an unpaid item dispute after 7 days. Send the customer a reminder notice before filing the dispute just incase they do have a genuine reason for not paying yet. If after a reminder is sent you still have no response and no payment then file a dispute. Once a dispute is filed the customer then has another 7 days in which they can still pay for the item and resolve the matter. If at the end of these 7 days you still have no payment, then you end the dispute stating that the customer has not responded. You will get a FVF – final value credit – for your item and the customer will get a strike from Ebay. Once a customer receives three strikes they will be banned from Ebay.

You can also leave the customer a negative feedback and they cannot leave you one in return if they have had a dispute closed against them for that item. I suggest you do leave the negative feedback so other sellers can see that they are a non payer.

Having people that buy with no intention of paying is a nuisance, but it is something that happens quite regularly and there is not much you can do about it. Just try not to let it bother you; accept it is going to happen and that it is just a part of the business.
