How to Spot & Avoid Bogus Wholesale Suppliers for Your eBay Business

Virtually all great ideas for making money attract a rogue element keen to get rich quick on the back of genuine entrepreneurs. It’s not so common on the high street, or by mail order and direct mail where there is an actual street address for you to visit to collect goods or submit any problems or queries.

The Internet is way too remote for developing trusting relationships between buyers and sellers of most things, especially high priced products. Go down this route and expect often to find your products don’t arrive or they are inferior quality, or your financial details have been stolen and your bank account emptied.

Until you know better, based on other people’s opinions or a thorough search of a particular supplier, you should avoid buying anything expensive from online only traders.

FOUR EASY WAYS TO SPOT A ROGUE WHOLESALE COMPANY ON AND OFF THE INTERNET

1) Genuine wholesalers rarely advertise their prices because they change very quickly in line with demand and supply. Rogue sellers do advertise their prices upfront to encourage fast orders and lots of cash and leave plenty of time for them to close down and move on to another ‘business’ before anyone can respond to the scam.

2) Some charge a joining fee before you can access their sites whereupon you discover this isn’t a wholesale product supplier at all, just another site listing one or two wholesalers and many more people wanting money to view their listings. This is not to suggest all web sites listing wholesale suppliers are bogus, there are some very professional sites charging a small administration fee to access their lists of wholesale suppliers.

3) The most likely sign of a bogus company is where payment is by bank transfer only which usually means money coming out of your bank account, into their bank account, money is withdrawn from their bank account, you get nothing!

4) Rogue wholesalers sell to anyone and everyone paying money up front, they do not care who you are or if you are a genuine trader or miscreant. Genuine wholesalers buy in bulk and pass some of their savings to you, the retailer. But wholesalers are plagued by individuals using them to subsidise their family budget or just wanting to purchase expensive items at a discount and thereby rob genuine retailers of profit. Consequently many ask for proof of trading status such as a business bank account statement.
